Ten years of spontaneous musical magic — never played before, never to be played again.

The Upward Dogs is a 100% improvisational groove collective led by Chapel Hill drummer Scott Jones. No setlists. No rehearsals. Every performance is created entirely in the moment — a singular musical event that exists only once.

Originally developed by Scott while living in NYC in a very improv-oriented scene of jazz and experimental musicians, he's been excited to bring this to the Triangle.

Accomplished Triangle-area musicians come together into "soups" of players with unique chemistry to create. Each lineup is a singular chemical reaction — never the same twice. Special guests and sit-ins always welcome.
